When an adult tooth is having trouble erupting an oral surgery called expose and bond may be performed to help the tooth along. These procedures are usually referred to our office by an orthodontist. We first sedate the patient. Once the patient is safely sedated the doctor will proceed to expose the tooth in order to attach a small chain to it. Then the gums will be closed up with stitches and the other end of the chain will be bonded to a bracket. The patient will then have to visit the orthodontist regularly for chain adjustments.
